The Historical Mission Inn

This is the front of the Mission Inn Hotel. The Mission Inn is a historic landmark hotel found in downtown Riverside California. It is the largest Mission Revival Style building in the United States. It is also a member of the Historic Hotels of America. This is the official Program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. I use the element of Value for all of there photos as well as this one.
The property began as a giant adobe boarding house built by Christopher Columbus Miller. This is the old preserved entrance. I had Balance in my mind while taking this photo.
Next to the statue of the late Frank August Miller, founder of the Mission Inn. In the Mission Inn's early days Miller owned two pet macaws names Napoleon and Joseph. They were a very entertaining part of the hotel. They spoke and greeted many guests like Christopher Columbus,Amelia Airport, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Theodore Roosevelt ect. These are Napoleon and Joseph's babies, named after their parents.
When Miller thought the hotel would soon go out of business these were used to bomb the hotel for re-construction and re-opening.
Statue of Booker Taliaferro Washington. He was the first African American person allowed to stay at the Mission Inn. In 2004 The Black Voice News made a sculpture of him for the 90 year anniversary of his historic visit.
The Campanario (Bell Wall) was built in 1903. Every guest walked up the stairs to ring this bell after their stay.
Many historic travelers brought gifts to the hotel in their were frequent visitors. This is the Nanjing Bell. This 3,500 pound bell from gifted from the Manchu Temple in Nanjing China. Cast of iron during the reign of emperor Quang Hsu around 1875.
This is another attraction from one of the main walkway just outside the Mission Inn doors. I focused on texture and contrast for this.
Many musical performances took place right here such as Dorothy Dandridge. I used balance and form.
Patterns from the Back of the Mission Inn. I used rhythm for this photo.
